For a list of fish and their locations, see the Fish page.
Fishing is a skill associated with catching items with a fishing rod or by collecting items by diving. You can fish in any body of water, including in the Mines and the town fountain. A fishing rod will need to be purchased from Terithia at her Tackle Shop at the Beach. A Worn Fishing Rod can be purchased for 500 Tesserae. Alternatively, it can be crafted by Blacksmithing by having the required ingots and paying a certain price.
Tutorial[]
Rod-Based Fishing[]
Overview & Controls[]
To cast your rod into a body of water, hold down the Use Tool button (varies due to platform). The outline of a square will appear in the direction you are facing. It will change colour based on how far away it is from you. If the tile you've selected is not appropriate for fishing, a red X will appear and your cast will fail. Stamina isn't used until you successfully hit a fish
In fishing-appropriate waters, dark grey oval shapes will be moving around. These are what you are aiming to catch. While you can conceivably cast into any water, for best results, try to aim your bobber directly on top of a fish. If not that, as close to it as possible.
Once one catches interest, it will slowly swim to your bobber. It may 'nibble' on the bobber a few times before biting down. Do not be fooled by this- tugging your rod then will result in the fish swimming away and a failed catch. Once an exclamation point appears over your bobber, it is time to click the Use Tool button to reel in your catch.
Whether you succeded or not at this point is (likely) dependent on your fishing skill level, Skill Perks (like the Appealing Reeling perk), what buffs you have, and the difficulty of the fish itself. The first time a player catches each specific kind of fish, a message displaying the name, price, and description of the fish appears. If you catch a junk item (wood, glass, etc) and it's your first time encountering it, this message also appears,
Specific Mechanics[]
Schools of Fish[]
Rarely, fish will clump together in one spot in the water. This is an excellent place to cast your rod into. You can cast in this spot multiple times, obtaining a different species of fish on each catch. Be careful not to scare a fish away as this will result in the entire school of fish disappearing.
Stamina Cost[]
Stamina usage is based on what fish you catch, with bigger fish using more stamina than smaller ones.
On average:
Small fish: 6 Stamina
Medium fish: 13 Stamina
Large fish: 20 Stamina
Huge fish: 26 Stamina
Dive-Based Fishing[]
If you see a dark hole in the water, you can swim up to it and dive for loot. Your character will duck under the water, then emerge holding an item.

Trivia[]
- Hayden hates fish.
- Despite the grey (presumably fish-shaped) oval noticeably swimming up to your bobber and biting it, you can reel up many not-fish items such as wood, glass, and even treasure boxes!
