Attack the Stalagmite once when it appears from behind, then keep moving. This prevents it from appearing directly under the player and dealing unavoidable damage. Standing on the edge of a mound and quickly stepping away and back to bait a Stalagmite out is another good strategy to kill them. Stalagmites can be found within the cave floors on/after floor 30, attempting to pop up and attack the player. They can move and sense the player from up to ? tiles away.
